Ovid's Vineyard: Music of the French Baroque

In 18th-century France, the florid stories in Ovid’s Metamorphoses were an inspiration to composers—and music itself was undergoing a metamorphosis, from the elaborate music of the baroque to something more natural and graceful, eventually developing into classical style. Cantatas by Monteclair and Rameau based on Ovid are performed, along with delightful instrumental works by Marais, Couperin, Telemann, and others.

With violin, viol, lute, flute, harpsichord, and soprano Rosa Lamoreaux
