Phillis Levin & John Burnside


Both John Burnside and Phillis Levin have a quiet formidable strength to their verse, and they read together for the first time. Phillis Levin is the author of five poetry collections, most recently Mr. Memory & Other Poems, a finalist for the 2016 Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Her honors include the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award, a Fulbright Scholar Award to Slovenia, and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. She is currently is a professor of English and poet-in-residence at Hofstra University.

Scottish poet John Burnside has published ten books of poetry, including his most recent and first American publication, Black Cat Bone, winner of both the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Forward Prize. Burnside has also won the Geoffrey Faber Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Prize for his work. He was Writer in Residence at the University of Dundee and The British Library. His memoir A Lie About My Father received the Saltire Book of the Year Prize and the Sundial/SAC Nonfiction Nook of the Year Award.
